Microsoft Security Essentials is actually an excellent AV suite...plus it's free. For heavy duty protection - Kaspersky.
I would avoid Norton at all costs.

Best suggestion would be to use a wireless router with one connection to the hub, and have the laptop connect wirelessly.
You could try your idea, however, keep in mind that you'll need to implement ICS (internet connection sharing) on both computers. ... |
